What is LibreOffice?
LibreOffice is a free and open-source office suite, a project of The Document Foundation. It was forked in 2010 from OpenOffice.org, which was an open-sourced version of the earlier StarOffice. The LibreOffice suite comprises programs for word processing, the creation and editing of spreadsheets, slideshows, diagrams and drawings, working with databases, and composing mathematical formulae. LibreOffice can open documents in many formats, including Microsoft Office files (.docx,.xlxs,.pptx). But it’s native file format is the fully open and standardised OpenDocument Format (ODF). At the recent LibreOffice Conference 2019 in Spain, community members gave presentations about news and updates for ODF.
Just as Open Office is an alternative to Microsoft Office (and Corel's Office applications, to a lesser extent), Libre Office fulfills the same role to Open Office. Forked from Oracle's Open Office suite, Libre Office is essentially the same, with a few subtle improvements that those who use either may not be able to spot unless they are specifically looking for something. Although Open office still is free (with Oracle offering a commercial, paid version of the software with added features like technical support), Libre Office retains the original Open Office (which was first named StarOffice) philosophy of being open and free; to this end, Libre Office is both free and open-source, with its code base being written and expounded upon by its community.
Libre Office contains the same applications as those of Open Office, and named the same. These are in direct parallel to more familiar Microsoft Office programs, and fulfill basically the same roles; these applications can save files on formats recognized by MS Office as well. Examples of these applications include Libre Office Writer (a word processing software similar to Microsoft Word), Libre Office Calc (a spreadsheet software, analogous to Microsoft Excel) and Libre Office Base (a database creation and management software, which is parallel to Microsoft Access), among others.

About file types supported by LibreOffice
File.org aims to be the go-to resource for file type- and related software information. We spend countless hours researching various file formats and software that can open, convert, create or otherwise work with those files.
If you have additional information about which types of files LibreOffice can process, please do get in touch - we would love hearing from you.
LibreOffice is a free suite of apps for creating text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and more, which you can then save in Microsoft Office formats. With LibreOffice, you get nearly all the functionality of paid word processing and other programs without the hefty price tag.
Pros
Familiar interface: In LibreOffice, each program's interface will be familiar to anyone who's used Microsoft Office. Whether you're creating a presentation, a document, or a spreadsheet, you'll be able to quickly find the tools and features you're looking for, grouped just as you'd expect them to be.
Additional programs: In addition to the three core programs (Writer, Calc, and Impress), LibreOffice offers apps for drawing, math formulas, and databases. There is even a Database Wizard to guide you through the process of creating a new database.
Easy sharing: While the default file format for this program is ODT, you can save documents in several other formats. That includes Microsoft Office file formats, making it easy to share LibreOffice files with others. You can also open Microsoft Office files. Myanmar font download for window 8.
Cons
Convoluted help: LibreOffice's Help File contains very little information. There is also a Discussion page, presumably for users to exchange information and ask questions, but that is completely blank and doesn't allow you to enter anything.
Java Runtime Environment requirement: LibreOffice requires the latest version of Java Runtime Environment for certain features, including creating a new database. Without this extra installation, you won't be able to take full advantage of all program features.
Bottom Line
LibreOffice is a good alternative to Microsoft Word or other paid word processing programs and office suites. Its apps are accessible and organized in a familiar way, and the suite includes a few bonus apps. Power users will have to install Java Runtime Environment to get the most out of the program, but casual users can likely skip this step and just enjoy the basic functions of word processing, spreadsheet creation and management, and presentation construction -- all for free.
